Your instructor has asked you to write a paper on Martin Luther King, Jr. You have found several articles and books using the Tech Library resources but want a few "personal snippets" of information to add to your paper. You are specifically looking for transcripts of speeches or information on Dr. King's personal life.

  1. Analyze the topic and narrow your search words; define relationships between the words.
  2. Select an appropriate search engine. For this exercise, use the Google search engine.
  3. Begin the exercise searching for information on Martin Luther King, Jr. (You do not need to complete an Advanced Search.)
  4. Review the results pages to find the www.martinlutherking.org web site.
  5. Go to the site and begin reviewing the information.
  6. Ask yourself a few questions about this site: What kind of information do you expect to find? What clues can you follow to determine if this is a credible web site? Who is hosting the site? Is there information on funding? What page of the Google search results did this site appear and what significance does the order of appearance have on the quality of the source?
  7. Evaluate the quality of the web site. Does the site provide valid information? Is this site appropriate to use in your paper?
